Spyder Hire was formed in November 1979 in Minehead when the three partners (Brian Walder, Roger Cawsey and Bob Walder) felt there was a niche within the local music scene for a Public Address Hire company. With several years of experience between the three of them of both performing and engineering with local bands, a steady flow of business soon came in serving the localities performers', music venues and festivals. Clients at this time included The Batchelors, Roy Castle, The Crickets, Des O'Connor, Joe Pasquali, Showaddywaddy, Sister Sledge, Edwin Starr, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra and The Troggs. Over the following 10 years, two of the partners left to pursue other careers, leaving Brian who eventually sold the company in September 2004. Having looked locally for a buyer, he eventually advertised nationally. The company was bought by freelance sound engineer Andy Squibb, who relocated the company to the Isle of Wight, and in Autumn 2008 the company changed name to Spyder UK Ltd. Between Andy and several freelance engineers and crew, we fulfil contracts both locally on the Isle of Wight and nationally, and we have several ongoing hire contracts on the Island. In addition to this we have orders taking us through to the end of next year. In addition to our work in the UK, Andy spends a large proportion of his time on national and international tours, working recently with artists including Westlife, McFly, Incubus and, more recently, Björk. |
